Interview
| I have been natural on and off for most of my life. Getting that first perm was my mom's idea. But I am happy to announce that she has seen the light and is going natural herself.
I think natural hair is beautiful and my hair is no exception. |
|
| I have been natural on and off for the past 10 years. During that time I gave in to the perming urge. (And then did a big chop twice.) Still I was natural 9 of the ten years. | |
| Have been mostly good. I did my first big chop when I was runing for Student Body Social Vice-President. My platform was, "It's Time For A Change." I won by a land slide. (The picture in the middle is my senior picture.) | |
| My family and friends have been pretty supportive of me all through out my journey. Of course I get the occassional,
"What are you going to do with your hair?" But for the most part they love me for me. The most important person in my life, my DH, love me for me. That is really all that matters. |
|
| Where do I start? I think natural hair is beautiful. I think that everyone has good hair, it is just a matter of learning how to take care of it. I love the versitility, stylability and growth that comes with being natural. | |
| I have very thick hair. So doing anything with it can be tiring. But I have learned to work around that and I wear my hair in styles that put hair handling to a minimum. | |
| Right now I wear natural braids. I am rebraiding my hair in a rotation (front, back, middle) every two weeks. I co-wash every other day and use baking soda and vinegar when I have build-up. I am not a product junkie so I try to keep it simple. | |
| When I want to get pampered or get a time consuming style, like small extension braids, done, I go to the shop. Aside from that I do my hair myself. I usually leave it natural but some times I put in extensions, If I really feel like a change I may do some tracts with tiny braids up front (half and half). And I have been know to wear a wig. | |
| Natural braids, double twists, Yarn braids/Nu Locs. | |
| I have learned not to be dogmatic about what it means to be natural and stay natural. I believe that if you aren't putting chemicals on your hair or burning it out with a pressing comb, everything else is fair game.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think that you should go around with something in (or on) your head all the time (aka braids, weavs, or wigs) but I do believe if the choice is between chemicals and any of the above, cornrow your hair down and get some tracks :) Seriously, I believe that surronding yourself with like minded people will make the hard time easier. And not weave bashing is very importatn you may end up eating your words. |
|
| Learn to appreciate and enjoy YOUR hair. Your hair may not be like my hair but it is beautiful none the less.
Start a blog. Make a list of sites. Learn new skills. Avoids ruts. Invest in things to get you by when the going gets tough. Remember God won't give you more than you can handle. That includes your hair. |

. Aloe vera works great. The key is twist and clip. Sit under a cool/ warm dryer and let it dry take out the clips...
