I have gotten some really great recipes and tips from you all regarding natural hair care for my child and I have been using more natural products in the past couple of years. Does anyone have experience using these recipes on relaxed hair? I know this site is about natural styles but, I admit to being scared of losing my length (it's near the middle of my back). I use pure extra virgin olive oil as a sheen, Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil moisturizing hair lotion every other night with a scarf, and I oil my scalp every other day with O.R.S. Carrot Oil before getting in a long hot shower with a plastic cap . I also apply it to my ends every day. I've had great luck with the EVOO and a soy sauce protein treatment I found (It's at the bottom) but are there some herbs and/or oils I should stay away from right now? I tried grapeseed oil, but it didn't even do that well on my daughter's natural hair, it's a great body and face oil, though. Thanks in advance for the feedback, Here's the recipe:
Soy Sauce Protein Treatment
1 oz. soy sauce
1 cup warm water
Combine ingredients and slowly pour throughout hair after shampooing. DO NOT try to comb it through. Let sit for 10 minutes and rinse. Follow with a deep conditioner.
This recipe is great for light breakage. For heavy breakage and more shedding than usual (we lose about 100 strands a day, normally) I recommend Aphogee protein treatment but use a different deep conditioner than the one that comes in the kit. I like Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil deep conditioner. Thanks again. |

What is the best way to care for your hair after swimming? I have not been swimming since 2002 and I had braids then. |

After years of trial and error, my daughter's hair and I have declared a truce. It has never been more easy for me to manage and she no longer cries when she sees me with a comb. There's just one problem left: no matter how much I wash it, it attracts lint and other little fibers. I don't use heat appliances on her hair except for the flat iron that I use 5 times a year, tops. I clean my combs and brushes regularly, I've bought new pricey combs and brushes, and it does no good. I thought that maybe I wasn't shampooing long enough, nope. Maybe I should comb it all out first, no. Perhaps if I comb it while it has shampoo in it and again with conditioner in it and AGAIN while it was still wet...nuh-uh. I've bought new towels and lint brushes and they don't help. So I come to you, sistas. Short of rubbing the child's hair down with a dryer sheet, can anyone suggest a remedy for this problem? Thanx in advance. |

What would be a good daily or weekly routine for my hair? My hair is coily and is often dry. I have no idea how to style it. I'm currently using head bands and I want to stop because of what it does to the edges of my hair. I would also like to know what products are the best to use.
Thank you in advance for your contributions! |

Hi. So though I'm not necessarily new to the no relaxer thing, I am just discovering all Ican do with my natural hair. I realy want to color it, but feel that dying my hair with the normal chemicals obviously isn't natural.
I was wondering if anyone new of any all natural or organic hair dye. I know there are some recipes on here but i'm not really that do it yourself type person. Plus my hair is jet black and i'm going to need something strong enough to dye it - mind you I'm trying to go for a golden blonde type look. So yea, if you know any products please let me know. |

I was just wondering, what exactly does glycerin do to hair? I'm transitiong right now. I use Mizani for my relaxed hair and raw shea butter and coconut oil mix on my natural hair. So far it's been good. I havent experienced a lot of breakage. I also use the shea and coconut nut oil on my 20 month old. Is glyerin ok to use on transitioning hair and my daughters hair? Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I'm brand new to this all!
