I did the big chop just yesterday. I have dry scalp and dry hair. I was advised to use pure shea butter and when I use styling products to make sure that it doesn't contain alchol. I have used Carol's Daughter Hair Milk and the hair balm on my son's hair. It works pretty well.

Hi. I'm pretty horrible at remembering the name of products. Aubrey Organics is a good nautral brand of hair care products.
Aubrey Organics~ *Blue Camomile Hydrating Shampoo & Hydrating conditioner ~ good for moisture and strength *Honeysuckle Rose Moisturizing shampoo & conditioner~ will help improve the texture of your hair *Island Naturals Replenishing shampoo & conditioner~especially for dry, frizzy hair Online, you can buy these at vitacost.com and iHerb.com These 2 websites have the best prices on AO that I have found so far. Many women have bought this brand at the Vitamin Shop. The key is moisture for our hair, so stay away from sodium & aluminum lauryl sulfate detergents in shampoo because they dry our hair even more. Do deep conditioning treatments weekly until your hair feels better to you, then at least once a month. Frankly, I have to do them every 2 weeks and my hair has been completely natural for 4 years. Also, do hot oil treatments monthly with coconut, olive or avocado oil. Using one of these 3 oils is good because they are said to actually penetrate the hair strands. Practice "baggying" That is lighly spritzing your hair with water and then applying a small amount of leave in conditioner or moisturizer. Massage through hair. Then use a small amount of your favorite oil to "lock in" or "seal" the moisture. Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap ( the thin clear kind) Cover the cap with a satin bonnet or scarf. This can be an overnight treatment or for a few hours. It will leave your hair very moisturized. Since your hair is short, you could use a small amount of moisturizing conditioner to wash your hair daily~ a co-wash. Always use a small amount of oil to seal the moisture in your hair. When your hair gets longer it will need to seal the moisture in the ends of your hair since that is the oldest and driest part of hair. Important if you want to retain length. Always look for moisturizing products for your hair. Hope this helps. report abuse

Also, I agree 100% with Sherri from the 1st post. Unrefined shea butter is excellent for hair. It can be used on slightly damp or dry hair. Take a small amount and rub your hands together to melt it and then apply.

I've transitioned into my natural hair since March of this year and now my head is almost all natural. My concern is it is so tight and dry in the morning. I moisturize it before going to bed and I sleep with a satin pillow case. What I'm I doinf wrong?
Thanks, Pam in St.Louis report abuse

Pam,try the overnight baggy method. it really does work for making your hair super moist. My hair is very dry also and when I baggy overnight, my hair stays moist all the next day.
Here it is again from my other post ;D **Practice "baggying" That is lighly spritzing your hair with water and then applying a small amount of leave in conditioner or moisturizer. Massage through hair. Then use a small amount of your favorite oil to "lock in" or "seal" the moisture. Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap (the thin clear kind)THEN cover the plastic cap with a satin bonnet or scarf. This can be an overnight treatment or for a few hours. It will leave your hair very moisturized.** I haven't tried any Redken products, but I've heard how well some of them work on natural kinky, coily curly hair. report abuse

I did the big chop about a month ago and also experienced dryness the way I deal with this problem is by 1. I no longer shampoo my hair I only condition it with Avalon Organics in Lavender, to help my hair with the curl pattern I use African Best Rinse-out and Leave-in Conditioner some people like ic silky gel moisturizer activator. I olil my hair with virgin olive oil and once a week I use coconut oil which I leave in over night.

Has anyone tried jojoba oil? I read that it is the most similar to the sebum that the scalp naturally produces. I tried it and it worked okay, but I prefer coconut or olive oil. Sta Sof Fro also works for me. I have coarse hair, so it takes a lot to give my hair any sheen.

Hi Iwill74! I use jojoba oil in the winter. It helps releive my dry scalp. I really love coconut oil for hair sheen and softness.

Jojoba oil gives my hair a nice sheen. I wouldn't necessarily moisturize everyday beacuse you might end up with a greasy look or feel to your hair and thats not good! HOWEVER as for as treatments go because it's extremely moisturizing and all natural I use honey & almond shampoo, deep conditoner, and rinse weekly because my hair is ultra dry and curly.
