Locking your hair organically is as simple as washing it several times a week. The frequent washing encourages your hair to coils and mat. After shampooing, gently pat your hair dry. Don’t rub or manipulate it in anyway. Aside from shampooing your hair is not separated or manipulated it is just left to its own devices. In time you hair will begin to mat. Depending on your hair texture it can take from eight months to a few years for your hair to lock. If your hair is course and coily, it could begin to lock in as little as 3 months. Softer wavier hair will take longer. During the first several months your hair will look like a very knotty afro. As time passes, you hair will begin to mat together. Many organic lock wearers choose this method for religious reasons so the final “look” of the locks is not as important as the spiritual aspect.
