Here are a few recipes for all natural hair dyes. On thing to keep in mind when using natural dyes to color your hair is that they are not predictable. It is usually best to start slowly and build to your desired color. Chamomile Brightener - 6 chamomile tea bags
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- Lavender oil
Directions: Bring one cup of water to boil and steep tea bags for 15 minutes; Discard teabags; Combine yogurt and 7 drops of lavender oil with chamomile tea; Mix thoroughly; Apply the mixture to dry hair, working through to ends; Cover head in plastic wrap and condition for thirty minutes; Shampoo hair. Natural Brown Hair Dye - Triple strength black coffee
Directions: Shampoo hair. Place a large bowl in sink and rinse hair with cooled coffee; Repeat several times, reusing the coffee; Leave final rinse in hair for at least 15 minutes; Rinse with clear water. Red Hair Color Enhancer - 1/2 cup beet juice
- 1/2 cup carrot juice
Directions: Mix ingredients together, pour over clean, damp hair; Wrap head in plastic and apply hot towel, medium dryer heat, or sit in the sun for one hour. Shampoo. Super Conditioning Henna Color - Henna color in powder form
- Deep conditioner
Directions: Mix henna using half the water as directed on the package; Add your favorite deep conditioner to the mixture until desired consistency is reached; Apply to hair, working through hair thoroughly; Leave on hair following directions as indicated on package; Shampoo; May be used with colorless henna to increase volume of fine hair without adding color. Natural Color Restorer for Gray Hair - 1/2 cup dried sage
- 1/4 cup dried rosemary
Directions: Simmer rosemary and sage in 2 cups of water for 30 minutes; Steep for several hours; Apply to gray hair and allow to dry, then shampoo; Repeat weekly until desired shade is reached, then once a month for maintenance. Lemon Chamomile Highlights - Lemon juice
- chamomile tea
Directions: Juice three lemons into a litre of warm water; Apply to dry hair; Rinse out after ten minutes. or, Steep six bags of chamomile tea in a litre of hot water; Apply to hair once cool; Leave in for twenty minutes. Natural Shampoos and Hair Fresheners Chamomile Shampoo - 6 chamomile tea bags
- 4 tablespoons pure soap flakes
- 1 1/2 tablespoons glycerin
Directions: Steep the teabags in 1 1/2 cups of boiled water for 20 minutes; Remove the tea bags and discard; Add the soap flakes to the tea and let stand until the soap softens; Stir in glycerin until well blended; Keep in a dark, cool place in a sealed bottle.
