Easy, Breezy, Beautiful, Natural Girl PDF E-mail
Written by Diedre Callam

Your hair is full of conditioner. Your friend (that you happen to be secretly in love with) calls you out to the restaurant you’ve wanted to visit for months. His boss just gave him his reservation but like I said before, your hair is full of conditioner. Maybe a Wash and Go style? Nope. Your afro-resistant workplace won’t have that and you won’t have time to do your hair in the morning either. You decline.

Let's get real. Natural hair is great and all but sometimes it can be a pain. I don’t know about you, but sometimes after getting rid of the tangles. I don’t really have another two hours to style my hair. I rarely have the freedom of having a friend call me to go somewhere shortly after washing my hair and getting out of the house on time. People say natural hair is very freeing, but it didn’t always feel that way to me. The good news - It can be.

Here are four paths to an easier hair lifestyle and have you feeling breezier as a natural-haired girl.

1. Self-Acceptance.
You know your Afro looks fabulous. You wash your hair and towel-dry it all the time. You wear it around the house everyday, wishing you could muster the courage to wear it out on the weekend with a nice flower to the side just like the models in the magazines. Well guess what - You can! Think about it, we tell people that we accept our natural hair but when it comes time to showcase it on the weekend when you’re not in the office – you are still hiding your fabulous kinks. The fro is the ultimate easiest style for a natural-haired lady. It’s yours. Embrace it. Love it. Flaunt it.

2. Just Get It Done.
Okay so Afros aren’t for you. You like the more refined, less attention-getting looks. A cornrow-twist combination suits you just fine. Maybe a neat straw set for that upcoming one-week vacation sounds good too. Just go to the salon and get it done. This reduces the time you spend trying to get the same results at home and lessens the stress on you. Do a style that will last at least to weeks to a month. Pamper yourself a little. You know we all deserve a little pampering from time to time. Right?

3. Stop Being Lazy – Just Do it.
Lisa got locs because she can’t be bothered with doing her hair all the time. A friend of mine did the same. The problem is that unlike Lisa, she hasn’t tightened her locs 6 months and it’s not looking pretty. She took one hour just to tighten ten just ten locs because she had so much new-growth. It’s been a while and still the end to her loc-tightening is nowhere in sight. All styles need maintenance. Dedicate the time - whether it is every Saturday morning or every other Sunday to styling your hair. Try styles that will last a longer time to minimize the stress of frequent styling. Just do it. You’ll probably feel more confident walking down the street with a nice style anyway.

4. Embrace The Fuzz
Your cornrows fuzz up after just two days. Lots of chemical-free ladies have fuzzy hair. Guess what! It’s not going away. My advice - Get used to it. It’s a lot like your ill-shaped baby toenail. Most people don’t notice and you’re the only one constantly obsessing over it.

Easy, beautiful hair is within reach. Use of the recommended paths could help you snatch it right up.
