The Basic Puff PDF E-mail
Written by Amy McKnight

The puff is one of the quickest and easiest natural hair styles that you can do. When I first went all natural in high school, this was the only way I wore my hair.

You’ll need:

A long scarf

A regular scarf

Directions:

Take the long scarf and put the middle at the front of your head. Crisscross the ends in the back.

Crisscross the ends again and bring them forward. Crisscross them again and

Gently pull the ends to tighten the puff. The more you pull it backward the smaller your puff will be.

Once you have your puff like you like it, tie a knot in the back.

Tuck the ends of the scarf under.

Tips and Variations:

For a perfectly round puff, take another scare and cover your head.
Gently pat your puff until it is round and even.

You can do a puff when you have twist outs or braid outs.

To add decoration or for a special occasion, try pinning a large broach or clip to the scarf.

If you have just washed your hair and are in a hurry, shake of the excess water, blot dry and pull your hair up into a shake puff.

For a flatter wavier hair line use a little gel and a brush to smooth your edges before you pull your hair back. Once it is in place tie a scarf around the edge for a few minutes.

Cornrow or flat twist the front of your hair then pull your hair into a puff.

Cornrow and twist the entire perimeter of your head. Leave the middle out .

Warning!

Puff are great but if you wear them too often your hair may begin to thin out around the edges.

Don’t pull your hair too tight, it can cause headaches

I used this style on my little girl for her first six years on the planet. It was all I knew how to do.

I need to learn more puff variations. I attempted a middle part look and it was fuzzy and almost unnoticeable by the end of the day.
