I went natural my freshman year in high school, and no, it was not planned. In order to save money during a family financial crisis, trips to the hair salon were taken out of the family budget. For a while I was unhappy with my hair, but after about four inches of new growth, I began to see how well it complemented my face, how healthy it was, and how fast it was growing.

Pretty soon, I was begging my mom to cut off my chemically treated hair, but she refused. Nonetheless, I was a persistent child, and in about one month, she had trimmers in her hand, and all the burnt hair had found a new home in the garbage.
Ever since then, I have been a happy natural. Now that I'm natural, I love to try on different styles, such as press-n-curls, twists and twist-outs, up-dos, wavy styles, and braids.

My all-time favorite and signature style, however, is the fro because it can be simple, elegant, innocent, sexy, girly, sporty, soft, and bold all in one. It also goes with any outfit! My advice to anyone thinking about going natural is to educate yourself first, and then do it, but by all means, do it.
