Starting this month NaturalHairCareGuide.com will be holding "Member Participation" contests to encourage conversation and reward member participation on the site.

Any registered NaturalHairCareGuide.com member, can participate in the first of our monthly NaturalHairCareGuide.com “Member Spirit Contests.” The Contest runs from Thursday, July 10, 2008 until Thursday, July 24. July winners and the next “Member Participation Contest” for August will be announced on Thursday, July 31.

So, do you have what it takes to win? Do you like to share your experience and insights? Are you supportive of other natural wears? Do you want to help other go natural and stay natural? Our very first NHCG contest will see if you indeed have “natural spirit”.

What I Have to Do?

Good question. The first thing is simple. Register to become a member of NHCG. (It is absolutely free.) As long as you are a member you have an opportunity to win.

Now comes to the fun part. Join in the conversation. You can do as much or as little as you like. But points will go to those who are the most active members. What can you do? Check out this article to get some ideas.

Slow and steady wins the race so consistent participation throughout the contest period is better than a lot at the beginning or end of the contest. We are looking for quality participation. We want to encourage conversation. The most important thing is that you have fun.

The Prize

I thought long and hard about what would be a nice prize for our first NHCG contest. I went back and forth between styling products and how to videos.

Since a large number of you want to learn how to maintain your hair at home. I decided on the how to videos. But then I thought, why not make it easy for the winner to practice. So instead of having to practice on yourself, I’m throwing in a professional full size mannequin head with table clamp. So you can watch the videos and practice all at the same time.

The Winner of the First NHCG Member Contest will receive:

• Braids by Breslin’s Classic “Four Hairstyles in One” which teaches you to do micro braids, cornrows, kinky twists, and weaves.
• Braids by Breslin’s Cornrow Compilation which teaches you how to do design cornrows, no-knot cornrows, and cornrows with extensions.
• A Top of the Line Professional Stylist Mannequin Head with Table Clamp

The Runner up will receive:

• Braids by Breslin’s Classic “Four Hairstyles in One”
• Braids by Breslin’s “Cornrow Compilation”

This is a competition but it is a competition to see who can be the most helpful. In the end everyone will win and this will be the most helpful natural community on the web.

Hi Kitty,

This contest is only open to those in the lower 48 states. However we will be having contest that are open to all NHCG members no mater where you live. And participation is cumulative so any NHCG member who hasn't already won is eligible to win.

This is a great I idea. I am tranistion and I have two young daughters. I have a hard time styling all of our heads. It would be great if I win.

WHAAAAT I didn't know there was a contest! Yaay! I was just searching 2 weeks ago for a kinky haired mannequin to practice on. I am style challenged~ afro puff, afro, 2 strand twists and twist out is my rotation. I want so badly to practice & learn to do bantu knots, flat twists, corn rows, and single braids with extensions.

Okay, I was really tired last night, but obviously I want to be entered in the current contest. The dvd's would be fantastic to learn from! Maybe I could be sportin' a new 'do before the summer's over! Mmmm, increased earning potential is a possibilty too if I got good enough creating natural hair styles. A thought.

Hi Islandwoman,

This contest is over but you can get started on next month's now. Pretty much all of the monthly contest center around user participation. It is my way of getting the conversation going.

So pretty much all you have to do is participate by asking and answering questions. Sharing your story and having a complete profile.

All NHCG members are eligible and it is cumulative effort.

I will have some specific contest coming up but this one was just a general get involved in the community contest.

In short the best place to start is fleshing out your profile. That is the first place that I look.

Hi all! I'm finally back and yes I made sure that I was logged in. LOL I don't know why I've been having a bit of trouble with that.

Anyway, I had time to fill in my interview questions this morning. (7/31)

I completed the interview a week ago (7/24) but it didn't post. >:( It was late at night and I didn't have the strength to do it over again.

I'm excited! I want to know who won! Please Amy, don't hold us in suspense too much longer! hahaha
