I am new to this site. Smile I have been searching for sites with advice and tips on transitioning from chemical relaxer to natural hair. Thank you so much for creating this site, it's great to know there is a place where I can share and receive tips on my process. My last perm was December of 2007 and since then I have thought of falling off the wagon. After my hair started thinning in the crown of my head I decided to make the transition. I have had my hair straightened with a hot comb or chemically relaxed for so long I really have no idea what my natural hair looks like. I do know that it is coarse, thick and very nappy (from going without retouches when my funds were low). After talking a female family member and finding out balding was heredity in my family I decided the choice to go natural was best for me, especially after she removed her wig to reveal a shinny scalp with a tiny afro along the sides!!!!!!!!!! My aunt simply said “ don't make the same mistake I did. You can kept relaxing your hair and end up bald like me or stop now and find ways to style your natural hair”. So far things are going good, I basically wear braids using Knackelon hair to cut down on the breakage and use a flat iron to straighten it between braiding. My niece (the family braider) told me she prefers to braid nappy because it looks and holds up better. I was skeptical but washed my hair without straightening and after it was braided I was really pleased. Glad I found this site, I will upload pictures as soon.

Hey everyone. I'm a fan of any site that talks about natural hair, so yea for this. I'm wondering though why I can't see certain parts of the site. I wanted to find out more about caring for my hair when I wear it in an afro, but I can't get to the right area. Any help out there?

Thanks for your wonderful website! I'm a '70's afrochick (big 'fro!), did my BC waaaaaay back in 1976! Since then, I have grown it back out cut it, grown it out, relaxed, texlaxed, braided and returned to natural 3 years ago. I am happy to read across the internet on various sites, that so many young african american women are embracing their natural curls, kinks and coils. If your hair is like mine, 4a/b, it is a lot to deal with, but so very worth discovering and appreciating the beauty and versatility of our hair. I luvmy4a/bhair!

Thanks so much and keep up the good work.

This site is absolutely whonderful. I recently had my hair locked by my cousin. He himself have locks that are ten years in growth. They are beautiful. He used the tool method to lock my twelve inches of natural hair. I have every intension to refer to this site as often as necessary. I had serveral questions and you all literally have answered them all. For anyone truly looking to be as informed as possible on natural hair you hit the right button this time. Thanks you all again for sharing your knowledge with me.

Thank you so much for creating this site. I started the process Dec '06 by growing the perm out. In July of '07, the multi-textures were making me crazy so I took the plunge. I must say I wasn't so happy then with my inch of hair , but I'm thrilled with how things are going. Thanks for the information. It should make the next leg of the process much easier.Biggrin
