Two Strand twist are one of the most popular natural hair styles around. They are simple to do. Depending on how you maintain and wear them the style can last from 2 – 4 weeks. You won’t want to keep them in any longer than 4 weeks as your hair may start to lock. You will need at least 1 ½  for twist and at least 3 inches if you want to set the twist on rods.

You can twist your hair while damp or dry. I have found that my hair comes out better when I twist it when it is freshly washed. But in a pinch you can use a spay bottle to dampen your hair.

What you will need:

Hair clips or bands (to section your hair and keep it out of your way)
Natural Gel
Comb (optional you can use your fingers)
Rods or Curlers (optional)

I like to start at the back and work forward but I’ve seen friends start from front to back and side to side. Do what’s best for you. If your hair is freshly washed, towel dry it until it is just damp. If need be use the bands or clips to section your hair into manageable sections.

If you want straight grid parts use a comb to section of a piece of hair. If you want a fuller look you can use your fingers.

Put some gel on the section of hair you are going to be twisting.

Separate that piece into two parts.

Twist your hair wrapping one piece over the other until you get to the end. If you hair curls/coils naturally twirl the end around your finger to make it coil. Repeat this until you are finished.

Once you are done you can either let your hair air dry or if you don’t have time for that sit under a hood dryer until they are dry.

Remember to tie your hair up at night. In the morning you can lightly spray your hair with a moisture mist or water.

For a different look, after a few days untwist your twist. This will give you a fuller softer look.

Curling Your Twist

I personally like wearing my twists curled. I have found that it give me more styling options. I can wear it twisted and curled. Then as the curls start to fall I untwist it and wear it in a twisted curly style.  When that starts to get old I put a pretty scarf around the edges or pull it back and wear a twisty curly puff.

There are two ways to curl your twist. Curling them as you go or twisting your whole head and then setting the twist on rollers.  I prefer to curl as I go that way when I am done I am done.

You will need to let the curlers stay in until your hair is completely dry for the best results. I usually air dry. Because I use cloth cover bendy soft rollers, if it is late I will sleep on them.  If you don’t have that kind of roller or are in a rush sit under a hood dryer until dry.
